Kansas City, MO, August 10th, 2023: Weinberger Fine Art is pleased to present “Unexpected Blooms”, a solo exhibition of works by Kansas City-based artist Katrina Revenaugh, opening on Thursday, August 10th, from 5 to 8 pm.
“Unexpected Blooms” is a sensory journey. A fusion of art and nature. The rawness of graffiti and the delicate beauty of botanical forms. It explores the world of botanicals by reimagining their essence through abstract interpretations and hand-cut floral shapes. Among these works are three-dimensional wall hangings that represent a re-wilding of Revenaugh’s practice. These sculptural elements draw viewers into a realm where botanical forms take on new dimensions and perspectives with the interplay of light, shadow, and texture.
With each piece, she created a harmonious dialogue between the organic and the urban- capturing the essence of nature's resilience and the grit of street art in an unexpected way. Using Belgian linen and thrifted chambray, woven together, a tactile and multi-dimensional experience has been created. The use of traditional two-dimensional techniques infused with contemporary abstraction allowed her to express the inherent complexities and layers found in street art and the natural world.
With a muted palette, she invites viewers to appreciate the subtleties and nuances present in each piece. The absence of bold hues serves to amplify the intricate details, inviting a closer examination of the artwork's raw, organic qualities. It is through this understated color palette that the ephemeral nature of botanicals is brought to life.
"Unexpected Blooms" celebrates the convergence of nature and urban culture, inviting us to explore the unusual beauty that lies at the intersection of both worlds. She’s sought to evoke a sense of wonder, connection, and appreciation for the ever-present beauty that surrounds us, even in the most unexpected places.
